EMRI's emergency ambulance service launched in Chennai

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi launched the Emergency Management and Research Institute's (EMRI) 108 emergency ambulance service in the state here on Monday.

According to the MoU signed between Tamil Nadu Government and EMRI, initially 198 ambulances would be provided by the state government at the cost of Rs 17.82 crore to EMRI.

EMRI in turn would provide required personnel for manning the emergency response centre and the ambulances.

The ambulances would be equipped with emergency equipment ranging from defibrillators to ventilators, to handle almost any emergency situation.

Apart from this, the ambulances would also be equipped with GIS and GPS systems, which would help locate the geographical position of emergency scene and help the nearest ambulance reach the site in the shortest possible time.

The 108 emergency service is free of cost and the 108 was a toll free number, which can be accessed from any landline or mobile phone without any prefix or suffix.

The emergency response centre physicians and the emergency medical technicians in the ambulance would provide free pre-hospital care while transporting the victim in the ambulance to the nearest hospital of his choice.

At present, EMRI would operate from the Kasturba Gandhi Hospital for women and children in the city.

Work on Adyar Park

The work was said to have commenced in 1993 but got delayed owing to a case filed by Consumer Action Group (CAG) in Madras High Court.

The High Court enforced a ban on this project on 9 March 1994. The State government filled a petition on 25 June 2007 that this project is aimed at protecting the environment and nod was given by the court to start working on this project.

On 2 January, this year, the High Court gave a verdict that a group should be formed.

A group of of environmental specialists and government officials was formed to look after this project.

The project would be completed by December 2010. The park, spread over 58 acres, was being built by Pitchandikulam Forest Consultants, an organisation in Auroville near Puducherry that’s involved in eco-restoration projects.

The cost for the first phase of the project was Rs 19.7 crore. The second phase would cover the remaining 300 acres of the park.

The total cost of the project was Rs 100 crore. Events in regard with environmental education would be held at the park.

Why huge Auto fare hits on public

The auto fare is very high in Chennai city and nearby outer areas. Why this high fare charged among the public? when compare to Karnataka and Kerala, we people paying more for auto.

Why our Government not controlling this high fare?

Government should take steps to formulate the auto fare by regularize the "Auto meter" rule. Surely it become a gift for TN people especially in Chennai. When they regularize the lakhs and lakhs of general public to follow the safety Helmet rule, this is not a big issue to take under control the some thousands of autos. The big question behind this WHY THEY ARE NOT DOING?.

Also the Share auto's also charging more even for a short distance and dumping the people like baggages due to bus fare hike and huge crowd, our people have to compromise with those auto walas. So DONT PAY MORE AND FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHTS.

The reason for the hike may directly/indirectly benefitable to Politicians, Police officers and other traffic officials. You can update your views and opinions in my blog..

Deluxe buses running more..

In peak hours delux buses are running more. It forces the middle class people to pay extra to travel. Government now introducing new deluxe buses only. Instead if introduce lot of white board buses and vestible buses, then it may reduce rush in peak hours.

50 Paise demand in Chennai

Now a days most of the passengers in MTC buses losing their money for the demand of 50 paise. Most of the ticket denominations are Rs. 3.50, Rs.4.50 and Rs.5.50 like that. Conductors also in shortage of 50 paise, but they simply collect 50 paise extra from the passengers and if anyone ask the due back, they simply telling no change. It seems it is happening in most of the bus routes.

Almost half of the crowd paying 50 paise extra per ticket. The only solution for this is to Government should issue more 50 paise coins to public usage or the ticket denominations should change or rounded off. So that all the passengers relax from paying extra.

At present I am living in Velachery and it is very fast developing area these days. It covers all type of shops and multipurpose super markets. This area is just turning like a T.Nagar. Dress materials, electronics, Jewellary, Shoe showrooms all are available in these area. More than this super markets like Relaince fresh, Naidu hall also is there.

It is located very near to OMR road which is having most of IT companies in Chennai. So the cost of living in velachery is little bit high. It has lot of transport facilities in all times, even in night time also buses are running from CMBT(M70, D70).

Two major IT companies located here. One is TCS located in Taramani road from velachery and other is Sutherland located in Tambaram west road.

Tamil Nadu cuts 2 % sales tax on diesel

The Tamil Nadu government has announced 2 percent sales tax cut on diesel heeding to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's appeal to states to reduce tax and share the burden. Chief minister Mr M.Karunanidhi in a statement issued in Chennai today said, the state will incur a loss of 250 crores per year, following the move.

He recalled that the state government had earlier reduced sales tax on petroleum products by 1.57 per cent in 2006, when the centre had hiked the prices of diesel and petrol - Bureau Report

PMK asks Centre to reconsider LPG price hike

Chennai, June 4 : PMK, a constitutent of ruling UPA at the Centre, today demanded that the government reconsider the hike in price of LPG, saying the increase of Rs 50 per cylinder would adversely hit the middle class.

PMK founder leader S Ramadoss, in a statement here, said the Centre had taken the decision to hike the prices of petroleum products after "great hesitation as it had no other option" due to high international prices of crude.

Taxes on petroleum products by the Centre and the states formed a major part in the pricing and the Centre had reduced customs and excise duty on petroleum products, he pointed out and asked the Tamil Nadu Government, which levied 30 per cent sales tax on petrol and 25 per cent on diesel, to reduce these taxes to help the commonman, he said

Chennai, June 05: Software exports from Tamil Nadu netted Rs 28,489.50 crore in 2007-08, a 37 per cent growth over the previous year.

"The total software exports from Tamil Nadu in 2007-08 clocked a growth rate of 37 per cent by registering Rs 28,489.50 crores," state IT Secretary Chandramouli said.

The Software Technology Park alone recorded Rs 25,701 crore worth of software exports, he told reporters here today.

In 2006-07, the state recorded an overall growth of 40 per cent in the IT industry and in 2007-08 it clocked 37 per cent growth, Chandramouli said.

The total hardware exports achieved Rs 211.56 crore as compared to Rs 165 crores last year, he said.

Speaking on the exports growth in Pondicherry, he said it clocked an overall growth of 47 per cent.

The total software exports from the Union Territory was Rs 63.98 crores, he said.

On the employment opportunities, he said about 2,72,000 are employed in the IT sector and around 77,200 new employment were created. He said out of the new employment opportunities 60 per cent came from BPO industry while 40 per cent in Information and Technology.

He also said that the students of Tier II and III areas will be trained by NASSCOMM so that they would become more employable he said.

The Special Economic Zones in the state achieved Rs 1,500 crores and the Madras Exports Processing Zone clocked Rs 1,200 crores this year, he said adding, growth under SEZs were steadily increasing.

"Of the 37 SEZs approved in the state, 15 have started operating" he said, adding 37 million sq ft of space in the IT industry would be available in the next three years

Left calls for TN bandh against petrol price hike

Condemning the Centre's decision to hike the prices of petroleum products, Left parties today called for a day-long bandh in Tamil Nadu on June 6.

Announcing this, CPI national secretary D Raja said the hike was "unjustified". The hike would have a casacading effect on the prices of essential commodities, which had already gone up by manifold and would further push up the inflation rate, which had already touched eight per cent, Raja said.

Accusing the UPA government of not taking any steps to contain inflation and price rise, he said it was regrettable that the Centre had sought to hike the petroleum prices, without considering alternative proposals. It should have compelled the private oil refineries to sell their products in the domestic market instead of exporting, he said.

TN CM reaches out to believers with Ram remark

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, known for being an atheist, attempted to appease theists in Chennai late Monday by offering to rename the controversial Sethusamudram project after Hindu god Ram.

"I have no issues with the Sethusamudram project being renamed after Ram if it helps the realisation of a dream of our late leaders Kamraj and Anna besides result in ending the State's isolation in the south through its fructification," Karunanidhi said while addressing a huge gathering at the release of the compact disc of Uliyin Osai (Sounds of a Chisel), a movie based on his short story written decades ago.

The Sethusamudram project, presently stayed by the Supreme Court, involves the partial destruction of a causeway believed to have been built across the narrow expanse of water separating India and Sri Lanka by Hindu God Ram with the help of an army of monkeys. Karunanidhi had poked fun at Hindu believers of Lord Ram earlier.

In an obvious reference to his detractors who faulted him for attending a plethora of film functions instead of striving for reduction of prices, Karunanidhi quipped: "As a creator, I have a responsibility of entertaining even those who deride me. The faults, if any, lies with those who invite me for such functions. While issues of inflation are inappropriate at these times, to my critics' chagrin, I have also helped the reduction of prices at eateries today."

Giving details about his work on which the film was based, Karunanidhi revealed that the short story penned at the Brihadeswarar temple at Thanjavur, some 300 km south of capital Chennai was a fictional account of the real reason for historical records that omitted 27 Bharatnatyam dance poses of the original 108 found in the sculptures.

The temple, built in the 11th century has a 215-feet high tower that does not cast a shadow.

Uliyin Osai features actors Vineet as the sculptor and Sarath Babu as the famous Chola king Rajarajan.

While veteran director and chief guest K Balchander admitted ruing the opportunity of making the movie by turning down an offer to do it over a decade back, fellow-megaphone wielder Bharati Raja went gaga over the chance of sharing the dais with Tamil scholar Chief Minister comparing him to a mythical flower that stays fresh till infinity.

Actresses Keerthi Chawla, Manorama and Jayachitra also shared the dais with Karunanidhi's daughter, poet and MP Kanimozhi.

Three picturised songs shown to the audience during the fete had a vintage look.

Karunanidhi turns 85 today

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Dr. M. Karunanidhi today turned 85. Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi were among those who greeted the senior leader over telephone. Dr. Karunanidhi during his conversation with the Prime Minister requested him to rechristen the Sethu Samudram project as Sethu Ram project.
Earlier in the morning, the Chief Minister told newsmen in Chennai that the speedy implementation of the canal project is the only message he has to say on this day. Central and state Ministers joined hundreds of party workers to greet the elder statesman. Several welfare programmes including screening of school children through the state for heart ailments are being launched today.
A massive public meeting will be held in Chennai this evening to mark the occasion. The meeting will be attended by External Affairs Minister, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, leader of the Left Parties and Union Ministers.

The Lifebuoy Swastha Chetna City Meter has rated Chennai the best in terms of the overall cleanliness perception ranking among the top six metros in the country. Bangalore and Kolkata have finished a close second and third respectively.

The major determining factors of the study included greenery and plantations, clean roads, availability of dustbins in public places and efficiency of the garbage disposal system.

The results of the study were released in Kolkata on Wednesday. India's financial capital Mumbai and union capital New Delhi were ranked fourth and fifth among the metros, the study said.

While among all the total 18 state capitals covered in the survey, Chandigarh ranked first with a total score of 144, Chennai finished second with 118 while Kolkata was ranked third with 108 score.

Mumbai (99) and New Delhi (99) were eighth and ninth among the 18 cities covered for overall cleanliness barometre, which is below the all city average of 100 points.
